We are seeking a Program Outreach Specialist to enhance our healthcare team of innovative leaders.

Santiam Hospital & Clinics is an independent, not-for-profit, 40 bed acute-care community-based hospital with 13 clinics across 8 specialties settled in the foothills of the Cascades serving many recreational sites as well as agricultural communities. Temporary part-time to full-time position through June 30th, 2023.

During this uncertain time, Santiam Hospital and Clinics has continued to meet the increased needs of our community. The SCoPE Molecular Lab is a new and evolving department, established in 2020 to help serve our community by providing COVID-19 testing during the pandemic. The SCoPE Lab received a grant to provide K-12 COVID-19 screening for all schools in the Mid-Willamette Valley, including Salem-Keizer public schools, the second largest district in the state. SCoPE is looking to add an Outreach Specialist to its dynamic team.

Job Responsibilities

The purpose of the K-12 COVID-19 Screening Program Outreach Specialist position is to increase program awareness and participation through various forms of outreach in the schools and communities we serve along with building rapport with these audiences as the first point of contact. The Outreach Specialist would act as the liaison between school staff, students, families, and community members and the SCoPE Lab.

The K-12 COVID-19 Screening Program Outreach Specialist is responsible for the following:

  • Make initial contacts with target populations.
  • Develop and maintain beneficial partnerships by acting as liaison between school staff, student-lead groups, students, families, community members, and the SCoPE Lab.
  • Provide excellent customer service through written and oral communications.
  • Explain program policy and procedures.
  • Creative problem solving, and material creation for target populations to increase program participation and awareness.
  • Schedule, travel to, and facilitate meetings, discussions, and focus groups with schools and target audiences.
  • Communicate with a wide range of diverse individuals to maintain program and testing equity. Locate, create, and coordinate a calendar of community events for informational booths designed to increase program awareness in the communities we serve by educating and distributing outreach materials. This individual would be responsible, with assistance from the Scope team, for setting up, tearing down, staffing, and working these booths/events.
  • Conduct surveillance research in the communities we serve to find communal spaces to provide program materials in order to increase program awareness. Create and maintain partnerships with community organizations to raise program awareness and promote testing equity. Provide community organizations with all of the information they need and act as liaison between them and the SCoPE Lab.
  • Additionally, training will be provided to qualify this individual to act as an Oregon Health Plan Application Assistor in an effort to make testing and healthcare equitable for all who are in need.

Specific Job Requirements:

  • Creating promotional and informational materials using Canva and other software
  • Cold calling/emailing
  • Acting as liaison between specific groups and the SCoPE Lab
  • Use of Excel and Smartsheets for organizing, tracking, and reporting information
  • Reliable vehicle and ability to drive to target locations on a regular basis. Mileage Reimbursement is provided.
  • Communicating program information and benefits to districts and families to encourage opt-in to the program
  • Locating community events for informational booths
  • Hosting informational booths
  • Communicating with English-as-a-second language or non-English speaking individuals
  • Assisting families with consent forms
  • Assisting individuals and families with OHP applications
  • Networking with schools and community organizations to increase program awareness and equity
  • Coordinating and facilitating meetings with target audiences
  • Typing and recording all meeting notes
  • Adhering to strict HIPPA regulations

Job Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or equivalent experience
  • Bilingual, Spanish speaker, ability to pass a Spanish speaking test
  • 3-5 years of customer service experience preferred
  • 2 years’ experience networking preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in coordinating events preferred
  • Efficient Time management skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
